Janet originally trained in textiles, concentrating on layering fabrics and translating marks and textures through print and stitch to create interesting textile pieces. This interest can be seen in her paintings - as she works the canvas, flat colours next to built up textures are overlaid by washes, marks and details.
"I have used the simple shape of the circle in my work for years. I find myself doodling cicles all the time, constantly striving for the perfect shape and line.
"Music is a great influence when I paint circles: I paint the shapes quickly then let the brushes, pencils and pastels be influenced by the sounds and the melodies. This is reflected by the way the marks literally dance across the surface spontaneously."
Janet's work has exhibitied widely and has been shown with Flowers Contemporary Gallery, London, Blue Moon Gallery, Tunbridge Wells and the Ark, Chester.
