About
Us
The
Christmas Steps Area Association promotes and supports the
interests of businesses and residents in the Christmas Steps
Area. As well as the Christmas Steps, this area covers Colston
Street, Upper Maudlin Street, Trenchard Street, Lower Park
Row and Perry Road.
The
Christmas Steps Area Association was formed over 25 years
ago by traders and residents to promote the interests of
the area. Much of its work has been building links with
Bristol City Council in areas such as economic development,
planning, tourism, street cleansing and highways. The Association
has also fund-raised to improve the area, including for
the decorative arch at the top of the Upper Steps. It continues
to work to achieve the full potential of this delightful
and diverse area, through its committee of residents and
traders, and through traders' and planning sub-groups.
What We Do
We believe that businesses and residents in the area will
benefit greatly by cooperating to protect and promote our
collective interests. Local conditions affect every business,
whether retail or service, and so we work to gather information
and communicate about issues of interest. We promote the
area with events such as the BS1 Art Trail. We also aim
to forge links with other bodies such as the Bristol City
Council, Bristol Tourism, the police and create strategic
alliances with other local instituions. In this way, we
are able to acquire and share information of interest to
our members and promote the Christmas Steps Area.
Who we are
The Association is run by a voluntary Steering Committee,
which meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6pm. All
members are welcome to attend and we are always very happy
to hear about any issues that are likely to be of interest
to our members. The Committee is always in need of enthusiastic
new members!
How Much Does it Cost to Join?
The annual subscription (£50-£150) is based
on the number of employees. The subscription includes a
full page entry on this website, newsletters informing you
of any issues likely to affect the Area and a chance to
change the Christmas Steps Area for the better! A small
annual subscription of £10 per household is applicable
to residents.
Meetings
The next Association Meeting will be held at 6pm
on Wednesday 8th November at Fusion Gallery (Perry Road).
All local traders and residents are welcome.
